Melody Benbow
Melody’s first instrument was her voice. From a very early age, Melody used to sing herself to sleep at night. Raised in Calgary with a well known pianist/teacher father, Melody became interested in popular music after several tears of classical piano and choir. Melody enjoyed writing songs and singing with her guitar and soon became inspired by Celtic folk music, traditional music from various cultures as well as independent songwriters.
For the past fourteen years, Melody has written songs and performed with West Coast Celtic band Kitangus, singing dup Syren and global folk band Haypenny.
Teaching for the past five years, Melody believes in encouraging her students to play/sing the music that they are inspired by and to find their own creative expression through this process. From the young beginner to the mature musical troubadour, Melody enjoys being a part of the process that brings out the music in everyone.
